It is a leader’s job to bring out the very best in people, to fuel their desire to be the best they possibly can be and to create an environment where individuals feel supported in accomplishing objectives. The role of the leader within organizations has evolved; today’s leaders must be able to achieve maximum employee contribution through supporting, coaching and acknowledgement. In essence they must establish a partnership with those they seek to lead. A tall order indeed!

Leadership style is an individual thing, the product of one’s life experience. Different styles will yield different results, and leadership style needs to adapt to different individuals, in different situations differently!

Understanding your leadership style will enable you to adapt your style to individuals and situations as appropriate.


Course Aim

To understand your own leadership style and be able to use different styles as appropriate.


Learning Objectives

  • To identify and understand your own leadership style and how to use it to advantage.
  • To understand alternative styles and when they are appropriate.
  • To understand why it is important to adapt ones leadership style to the individual(s) in a given situation
  • To understand why consciously changing ones behaviour does not have to mean “faking it”


Learning Outcomes

  • You will understand your own leadership style and know when & how to use it.
  • You will consciously seek to use other leadership styles where appropriate
  • You will become an active observer of your own behaviour and use your observations to make positive changes
  • You will use your knowledge of leadership styles to lead and to help others take ownership for their own behaviour
